The Detroit Tigers faced the Baltimore Orioles today in Grapefruit League play. The Tigers had Keider Montero making his second spring start against Dean Kremer, who was also making his second spring start.

Scoring
Back and forth
The Orioles started the scoring as Tyler O’Neill hit a solo home run in the first; it was his first of the spring. The Tigers answered in the top of the second as Trei Cruz singled home Thayron Liranzo. In the bottom of the second, Baltimore took the lead again. Taylor Ward doubled to lead off the inning, then a few batters later, with Ward on third, Coby Mayo drove him home with a sacrifice fly. The back and forth continued as Detroit tied it up again at the top of the third. Hao-Yu Lee doubled to right field, and Matt Vierling tried to score but was thrown out at home. Lee advanced to third. Orioles’ top prospect, catcher, Samuel Basallo, left the game after the play as he appeared to injure himself. Next batter, Colt Keith doubled home Lee to make it 2-2.
Tigers Fight Back
In the bottom of the fourth, Baltimore took the lead back. Coby Mayo singled home Ward, who reached on a single and advanced to third on another single. Jeremiah Jackson then singled home Heston Kjerstad to make it 4-2 Orioles. They tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth as Ethan Anderson grounded into a double play, but it brought home Jhonkensy Noel. The Tigers got right back into the game at the top of the sixth as Eduardo Valencia hit a two-run home run to make it 5-4. It was his first of the spring. In the seventh, Detroit tied it as Carson Rucker homered, his first of the spring. Detroit had a chance to take the lead in the ninth after a triple from Corey Julks, but Max Clark grounded into a force out, and they got Julks out at home.
Orioles Walk-Off
In the bottom of the ninth, Aron Estrada led off with a ground-rule double, Silas Ardoin then singled Estrada to third, Jordan Sanchez would single home Estrada to win the game.
Pitching
Detroit
Keider Montero went three innings, giving up two runs on five hits. Brant Hurter had the fourth, giving up two runs on four hits; he struck out one. Brenan Hanifee got the fifth; he allowed a run on two hits. Sean Guenther got the sixth, and he allowed a hit. Moises Rodriguez got the seventh for Detroit, and he didn’t allow a base runner. Carlos Pena had the eighth, and he recorded just the second Tigers strikeout of the game. He also didn’t allow a base runner. Pena came back out for the ninth, and he didn’t fare as well as he did in the eighth. He allowed three hits and the winning run; he struck out one.
Baltimore
Dean Kremer went 2.2 innings, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk; he struck out one as well. Gerald Ogando got the last out in the third inning. Jackson Kowar had the fourth, and he walked one, but that was the lone base runner he allowed. Cameron Foster got the fifth, and he didn’t allow anyone to reach base. Trey Gibson started the sixth and allowed a home run and a walk, then turned it over to Yaqui Rivera, who got the last out in the inning. Gibson then returned for the seventh and eighth innings. He finished the day going 2.2 innings, allowing three runs on three hits and walking one; he struck out two. Andrew Magno got the ninth; he allowed a triple but pitched out of it.
