The Detroit Tigers picked up the win in the third game of the series against the Red Sox this afternoon. The final was 6-2 and it was Detroit’s eighth win in their last nine games while it was Boston’s fourth loss in their last six games.

Detroit opened the scoring after a double by Dillon Dingler on the seventh pitch of the at-bat gave them a 1-0 lead. Willson Contreras homered to left field on an 0-2 count, which helped tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.

In the top of the fifth, Jahmai Jones broke the tie with a solo home run. Then a home run to center field by Dingler followed to extend the lead to 5-1. Each team would tack on another run.

Framber Valdez earned the win for Detroit. The southpaw surrendered three hits and one run over six innings, striking out seven and walking two. Garrett Crochet took his second straight loss for Boston. The Red Sox ace went five innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, striking out eight and walking two.

Player of the Game

Dillon Dingler had a big dig for Detroit and was a huge part of why they came away with a win. The Tigers catcher went 4-5 with four RBI, a double, and a home run. It was his fourth double of the season and his team-high fifth home run of the season.
