
The Detroit Tigers took the second game of the four-game series with the Boston Red Sox 4-1 this afternoon. The Tigers were the first to get on the board in the first inning when Kerry Carpenter drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring one run. The Tigers tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning. Carpenter hit a solo home run, Jake Rogers drove one in on a sacrifice fly, and Kevin McGonigle singled in a run. The Red Sox’s lone run came in the fifth when Connor Wong drove in a run when he grounded into a double play with the bases loaded.
Tarik Skubal earned the win for the Tigers. The southpaw surrendered four hits and one run over six innings, striking out 10 and walking two. Brayan Bello suffered the loss for the Red Sox. The righty went four innings, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out four and walking three. Former Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen earned his fifth save of the season.
Ceddanne Rafaela, Willson Contreras, Roman Anthony, Andruw Monasterio, and Wilyer Abreu had the five Red Sox hits in the game. McGonigle and Carpenter each collected two hits for Detroit.

Kerry Carpenter led the Tigers’ offense with his solo home run and the bases-loaded walk in the first inning. He finished the day going 2-3 with two RBI, a run scored, and a walk.
