MLB Game Recap

The Red Sox scored first on Willson Contreras reaching on a fielding error that scored Anthony Seigler. Washington got a run back on an RBI single in the fifth. The Nationals got three runs in the seventh, one on an RBI single, and two more on a double. Washington added a solo home run in the eighth. They added three more on a two-RBI double and another double to make it 8-1. That was the final

Connelly Early got the start but left after four innings with left elbow discomfort. Not a good sign for the lefty. He went four scoreless innings. He allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out five. Danny Coulombe went 0.2 innings, allowing a run on two hits and a walk. Greg Weissert went 1.2 innings, allowing two runs on a hit, a walk, and a strikeout. Justin Slaten went 0.2 innings, allowing a run on two hits and striking out two. Tommy Kahnle went one inning, allowing four runs on four hits. He walked one and didn’t strike anyone out. Ryan Watson closed the door.

Standout Performer

Anthony Seigler scored the game’s only run and had one of the four Red Sox hits in the loss.

Key News & Notes

Bench cleared in the fourth after Willson Contreras struck out. It appeared Cade Cavalli said something to Contreras, and things escalated from there, with Contreras whipping his helmet. Chad Tracy was ejected from the game as he was arguing with the umpires after the benches cleared. The players tossed were Contreras, Nate Eaton, who wasn’t playing, and Miles Mikolas for Washington. Somehow, Cade Cavalli was allowed to stay in the game after he clearly said something to get Contreras going.

If Early is out for some time, it likely would signal Patrick Sandoval coming to Boston, as they need to make a decision on him before July 4th.

Payton Tolle gets the finale. He’s 4-5 with a 2.78 ERA, a 1.02 WHIP, and 69 strikeouts in 71.1 innings.
