West Virginia Wins Back and Forth Battle
The Mountaineers came out ready to go in Omaha. Armani Guzman got them on the board in the first as he stole home. Jabe Boroff in the top of the second knotted things up with an RBI single. In the second, West Virginia was back out in front as Tyrus Hall drove in two on a double to make it 3-1. Troy bounced right back with a three-run third to make it 4-3. The Mountaineers got a solo home run from Sean Smith, tying it back up. West Virginia took the lead back in the bottom of the fourth as Guzman doubled home a run to make it 5-4. Jimmy Jancki tied the game back up at five with a solo home run. In the bottom of the eighth, Hall singled home two to make it 7-5, and that would be the final.
Chansen Cole got the start, going 2.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out two. Benjamin Stubbs had the mound for the Trojans, going 3.2 innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits. He walked two and struck out four. The pitcher who stole the show was Ian Korn, who went six innings, allowing one run on two hits. He walked three and struck out four.
North Carolina Wins Thanks to Aces
Dom Decker opened the scoring with an RBI double. The Tar Heels tied the game in the sixth with an Owen Hull home run. Judd Utermark had an RBI single to break the tie. In the bottom of the seventh, the Tar Heels tied things up with a sacrifice fly from Jake Schaffner, and then Gavin Gallagher drove home a run to give them the lead with an RBI single. The Tar Heels put the game away with a three-run home run from Colin Hynek.
Jason DeCaro got the start, going 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He walked three and struck out nine. Freshman phenom Caden Glauber got the rest of the game. He went 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing three hits, no walks, and striking out two. Taylor Rabe got the start for Ole Miss, going 5.2 innings, allowing a run on two hits. He walked four and struck out seven.
