NCAA Baseball Tournament Day 7: Three More Teams Punch Ticket for Omaha, Two Games Suspended

The Super Regionals third day saw three more tickets punched for Omaha, with two games suspended. There will be two more tickets punched today to decide the final.

Georgia Needs Extras to Advance

The Georgia Bulldogs led 7-2 after five innings before the Mississippi State Bulldogs started to come back. They scored seven runs combined in the sixth, seventh, and eighth. The game was 9-8 after eight innings, with Mississippi State looking to force a game three. The Bulldogs would get a run in the ninth on an RBI single. In the tenth, Daniel Jackson hit a two-run home run to make it 11-9.

North Carolina Walks-Off to Omaha

The Tar Heels trailed 3-1 entering the eighth, where they got one run back, making it 3-2, where things stood entering the bottom of the ninth. Jake Schnaffner tied the game with a sacrifice fly. Owen Hull then sent the Tar Heels to Omaha with an RBI double in a 4-3 win. Freshman standout Caden Glauber went 7.1 innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He walked one and struck out 11 as he continues to impress.

Rain Halts Alabama/St. John’s 

Alabama jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but the Red Storm got a run back in the bottom of the third. They lead 3-2 after six innings, but in the top of the seventh, Jason Torres broke it open with a grand slam to make it 7-2. Lightning and rain delayed the game, forcing officials to suspend it until today at 12:00 p.m. EST. If necessary, Game 3 will follow Game 2.

Oklahoma/Kansas Suspended

The Jayhawks and Sooners met for game two of the Super Regionals, and after a 2.5-hour delay, the Sooners’ bats came out swinging, putting up a run in the first, six in the second, and one in the third. The game was suspended in the third. It will be completed today at 1:00 PM EST. Game three, if necessary, will be played at 5:00 PM EST.

Texas Comeback Leads to Omaha 

The Longhorns led off the game with back-to-back home runs. Oregon got back in the game with a run in the second and two in the third. The Ducks took a 5-4 lead, but in the top of the eighth, Adrian Rodriguez doubled home two runs, and Texas is going back to Omaha
