Detroit Tigers Notebook: Complete Sweep over White Sox with Walk-Off, Tigers Back, and More

The Detroit Tigers picked up a series sweep over the Chicago White Sox, with a walk-off, improving to 33-44. They’re 7.5 games back of the Cleveland Guardians for the American League Central. They’re five games back of the Blue Jays for the final spot in the American League wild card standings.

The Tigers got on the board first with a Zach McKinstry RBI single in the fifth inning. The White Sox woke up in the sixth with a two-run home run to make it 2-1. They added to that lead in the seventh with an RBI double. In the eighth, Dillon Dingler hit a solo home run to make it 3-2. Dingler tied it in the bottom of the ninth with an RBI single. The game went to extras. The White Sox got a run in the tenth to make it 4-3. Spencer Torkelson singled home a run to tie it in the bottom half. Matt Vierling then singled home the winning run as the Tigers completed the sweep.

Keider Montero went seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out three. The bullpen, with a combination of Drew Sommers, Kyle Finnegan, and Will Vest, went three innings, allowing an unearned run. They combined for no hits, no walks, and four strikeouts.

Dillon Dingler went 2-5 in the win, driving in two very important runs for the Tigers with the solo home run and the game-tying hit.

The Tigers in June are now 11-6, averaging 5.4 runs per game while allowing 3.4 runs per game. Tarik Skubal made his comments, and the Tigers swept the White Sox, averaging 4.3 runs per game while allowing 2.7 runs per game.

They will now enter their most crucial stretch of the season as they’ll face the Yankees for three at home, the Astros for four at home, then head to New York to face the Yankees for three.
