Detroit Tigers News & Notes 05/14/2026

The Detroit Tigers are 19-24 after last night’s walk-off loss. They trail the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the American League Central by four games. They’re 2.5 games back of the Chicago White Sox for the final wild card spot in the American League.

MLB Game Recap

Detroit led for a majority of the game, scoring two runs in the first inning on a two-RBI single by Riley Greene. The Mets made it a one-run game when Tyrone Taylor drove home Mark Vientos. It was tied in the seventh as Bo Bichette singled home, Luis Torrens. The Mets would walk it off in the tenth as Carson Benge singled home, A.J. Ewing handing Detroit their second straight loss. Framber Valdez returned from his suspension, going 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out seven. Kyle Finnegan and Kenley Jansen shut the Mets down, but Drew Anderson allowed the ghost runner to score.

Standout Performer

Riley Greene drove home the Tigers’ two runs and had a big day at the plate, going 3-5. It just wasn’t enough as he popped out in his at-bat in the tenth inning.

Key News & Notes

The Tigers continue to inch closer to more pitching reinforcements coming back, as right-handed pitcher Tyler Melton was sent to Triple-A Toledo for a rehab assignment. The other roster move yesterday was activating Framber Valdez for tonight’s start.

  • Toledo Mud Hens (AAA): Max Anderson, the Tigers fourth ranked prospect, had another RBI in Wednesday’s loss to Omaha. He went 1-5 with a solo home run in a 3-2 loss.
  • Erie SeaWolves (AA): Andrew Jenkins had another two-hit day, going 2-4 with a run scored in a 6-5 loss to the Flying Squirrels.
  • West Michigan Whitecaps (A+): Andrew Sojka went 2-4 with a double and a run scored in the Whitecaps 4-2 loss to the Loons.
  • Lakeland Flying Tigers (A): Jesus Pinto had a big game for Lakeland, going 3-4 with a double, a walk, and three RBI in an 8-6 win over the Threshers.
  • FCL Tigers (ROK): The FCL Tigers were off last night. They are back tonight against the FCL Blue Jays.
