MLB Game Recap

The Cubs secured their third consecutive walk-off win after rallying from a 6-4 ninth-inning deficit. Starter Colin Rea delivered 5.1 innings. He allowed one earned run on six hits with five strikeouts on 98 pitches. The bullpen then saw dominant relief from Jacob Webb and Phil Maton. The turning point came when Pete Crow-Armstrong hit a game-tying two-run home run in the ninth. Michael Busch followed with a bases-loaded, walk-off walk in the tenth. This sealed the victory.

Standout Performer

Ian Happ led the offense with a remarkable performance. He went 3-for-5 with a home run. He also added two RBIs, scored two runs, and stole a base. His first-inning blast extended his on-base streak to 27 games. It pushed him into 12th place on the Cubs’ all-time home run list. Happ’s consistent production and pressure on the basepaths kept Chicago within striking distance until the late-inning heroics. Pete Crow-Armstrong’s ninth-inning blast forced extras. Michael Busch’s walk-off walk in the bottom of the tenth is also worth noting.

Key News & Notes

The Cubs placed LHP Matthew Boyd on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 4. He requires surgery on a meniscus injury in his knee. This surgery sidelines him for the foreseeable future. In a corresponding move, the club selected the contract of RHP Trent Thornton from Triple-A Iowa. He immediately earned the win in his team debut. Additionally, the team’s 14th straight win at Wrigley Field marks their longest home winning streak since 2008.
