The Cincinnati Reds start a new series with the Chicago Cubs today at home. They enter the series eight games below five hundred with a 42-50 record. They are currently 16.5 games back from the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central. As the trade deadline nears, two names surface in the roster changes. These changes are made today before the series opener with the Cubs. Tonight, Hunter Greene will start for the Reds. Shota Imanaga will pitch for the Cubs. The game begins with a 7:10 PM first pitch at American Family Ball Park. Before tonight’s game, the Reds announced two roster moves.

Ke’Bryan Hayes

The Cincinnati Reds have activated Ke’Bryan Hayes from the ten-day injured list today. Hayes was struggling to start the year with a .142 batting average before being shut down with Lumbar bulging disc in his back on May 22nd. He has played in 44 games for the Reds this season. Hayes, known for his defense, has two home runs and five RBI this season. Hayes has been impressive since his rehab started in five games. He has six runs scored and eight hits. Additionally, he has four doubles and one home run. Hayes has achieved three RBI and has struck out only once. In three games with Louisville in Triple-A, Hayes has slashed .583/.571/1.167.

Matt McLain

The Cincinnati Reds have placed Matt McLain on the ten-day injured list. This is retroactive to July 8th. The reason is a left calf sprain. McLain has played in 83 games this year for the Reds. He has achieved 13 doubles, eight home runs, 25 RBI, and 11 stolen bases. He has slashed .190/.293/.328 this season. McLain has not matched his 2023 rookie season form. During that season, he hit 3 doubles, four triples, 16 home runs, and 50 RBI. He slashed that season .290/.357/.507 in 89 games.
