The Boston Red Sox play the third game of their four-game series this afternoon against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Red Sox won yesterday 2-0 behind home runs from Wilyer Abreu and Ceddanne Rafaela. Connelly Early, Garrett Whitlock, and Aroldis Chapman combined for the shutout. Ahead of today’s game the Red Sox reinstated right-handed pitcher Justin Slaten. To make room for Slaten the Red Sox optioned Jack Anderson to Triple-A Worcester.

Justin Slaten
Slaten has made four appearances this season and is 0-1. He has yet to allow an earned run. He has allowed a run on two hits. Slaten has walked two and struck out five in 3.1 innings. He’s made two starts during his rehab pitching two innings allowing a hit in each appearance. Slaten has one walk and four strikeouts.
Jack Anderson
Anderson didn’t pitch in his most recent call-up which was only one game. He made three appearances in his first call-up with the Red Sox, posting a 3.38 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP, and six strikeouts in eight innings. In five games at Worcester this season, with three of those starts, he’s 1-1. He has a 4.50 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, and 17 strikeouts in 18 innings.
