Boston Red Sox Recall Sixth Ranked Prospect

Katie Morrison-O'Day

The Boston Red Sox return home for a three-game series against the Houston Astros tonight. The Red Sox are coming off a 3-3 road trip in which they averaged 5.2 runs per game while allowing 4.2 runs per game. The Red Sox are without Garrett Crochet, who was supposed to start tonight. They placed him on the injured list on Wednesday and recalled utility player Nate Eaton from Triple-A Worcester. Yesterday, the optioned Eaton back to Worcester to make room for today’s call-up.

Boston is calling up left-handed pitcher Jake Bennett from Triple-A, and he will make his MLB debut tonight as he’s starting against Houston. Bennett was supposed to start at Worcester on Wednesday, but was scratched from that start, which began the speculation that he was getting called up at some point to start for the Red Sox, and there was an injury. Bennett is the Red Sox sixth ranked prospect in the system and the fourth-ranked pitching prospect. In five starts at Worcester this season, he’s 2-1. Bennett has a 0.86 ERA, a 0.71 WHIP, and 16 strikeouts in 21 innings.
