Standout Performer
Sonny Gray on the mound, it may just be me, but I feel safe with a 2-0 lead. Last night he continued that with his performance. In his last three starts, he is now 2-0 with a 0.93 ERA, a 0.72 WHIP, and 19 strikeouts in 19.1 innings.
Key News & Notes
The Red Sox once again experienced plane issues as the flight was supposed to leave on Thursday night. The plane didn’t end up leaving until roughly 2:00 Friday. They landed a little after 4:30, which delayed the start of last night’s game by 35 minutes.
It was announced while they were in the air that Ceddanne Rafaela would be replacing Aaron Judge on the All-Star team. It’s fitting for Rafaela, who’s hitting .283 with a .768 OPS. He has 21 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 39 RBI, 40 runs scored, 17 walks, and 12 stolen bases.
Eduardo Rivera is getting the call to start today’s game. Rivera has made an appearance for the Red Sox, going 3.1 scoreless innings. He allowed a hit, no walks, and struck out three. If you recall, he got called up from Double-A Portland, where in two starts he was 1-0 with a 0.90 ERA, a 0.90 WHIP, and 16 strikeouts in ten innings. After his stint with Boston, he was sent to Worcester, where he’s made 20 appearances, with two coming as starts, going 6-2 with a 2.84 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and 46 strikeouts in 38 innings.
