MLB Game Recap

The Mariners got a solo home run in the second to open the scoring. The Red Sox tied it with a solo home run from Nate Eaton. That would be Boston’s lone run, with the Mariners getting an RBI single in the fifth and an RBI ground out in the sixth to make it 3-1.

Payton Tolle took the loss, going six innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He walked two and struck out two. Danny Coulombe and Ryan Watson each pitched an inning. They didn’t allow a hit, walked one, and struck out two.

Standout Performer

Caleb Durbin went 2-3 in the loss, he was the only Boston hitter to have multiple hits. The Red Sox only had five hits in the game.

Key News & Notes

Caleb Durbin is heating up as he is on a four-game hitting streak. He is 8-14 in the last four games. Durbin has two doubles, two home runs, three RBI, and four runs scored.

Looking at the pitching, it’s weird to imagine this team isn’t a playoff team. Ranger Suarez has a 2.64 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP, and Connelly Early has a 3.64 ERA along with a 1.27 WHIP. Sonny Gray has a 3.12 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP, and Payton Tolle, after today, has a 3.08 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP. That goes to show just how bad this lineup that was so hyped up before the season really has been.

Reports also indicated that Sonny Gray is willing to waive his no-trade clause, making him an interesting name to watch for a trade.
