Boston Red Sox Notebook: Opener Loss, Romy Rehabs, and More

The Boston Red Sox dropped the series opener to the Blue Jays 6-1, dropping to 29–41. They’re 14 games back of the Yankees for the American League East. They’re six games back of the Athletics for the final spot in the American League wild card standings.

MLB Game Recap

The Blue Jays got on the board first in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly. Toronto tacked on two more with back-to-back solo home runs, making it 3-0. The Blue Jays got another run in the sixth on a double. The Red Sox ended the shutout with a Jarren Duran solo home run in the eighth inning to make it 4-1. The Blue Jays got two more with a two-run home run.

Payton Tolle went five innings, allowing three runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out six. Tommy Kahnle, Greg Weissert, and Ryan Watson all appeared out of the bullpen.

Standout Performer

Jarren Duran drove home the lone run on aw solo homer. He also went 2-5 in the loss.

Key News & Notes

Romy Gonzalez made his first rehab appearance tonight, playing for the Portland Sea Dogs. He went 1-2 with a two-run home run in the third and also drew a walk. Patrick Sandoval is also in Portland as he continues his rehab it is not yet known when he will pitch however based on his last start it should come tonight.
