MiLB Game Recap: Two-Run Ninth Propels Woo Sox

The Worcester Red Sox hit the road to face the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the first of six games this week. Worcester entered tonight 33-32, sitting eight games back of the Red Wings for first place in the East Division. The IronPigs were 32-37, sitting 11 games back of the Red Wings in the division. The Red Sox had Jack Anderson on the mound. He brought in a 1-3 record with a 4.39 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP, and 40 strikeouts in 41 innings. Tucker Davidson took the ball for Lehigh Valley, bringing in a 3-3 record with a 6.50 ERA, a 1.96 WHIP, and 40 strikeouts in 44.1 innings.

Red Sox vs. IronPigs

The Woo Sox scored first as Mikey Romero singled home a run in the third. Lehigh Valley took the lead in the bottom half as Felix Reyes hit a two-run home run to make it 2-1. The IronPigs added to their lead with an RBI double from Carter Kieboom. Worcester would get a run back in the fifth as Tsung-Che Cheng hit a solo home run, then a few batters later Vinny Capra stole home as Anthony Seigler stole second to tie the game at 3-3. In the ninth, a single from Seigler gave the Woo Sox the lead, then Romero added an RBI single for some insurance to make it 5-3, which secured the win.

Anderson went three innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He walked one and struck out one. Tyler Uberstine for Worcester went four innings, allowing a run on two hits. He walked two and struck out four. Tyler Samaniego got the win, going an inning, allowing a hit, and striking out one. Angel Bastardo got the save as he got the ninth, allowing two walks and striking out one. Davidson went 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. He walked four and struck out four.

Next Up:

These two teams will play tomorrow night at 6:45 PM EST at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, PA. The Red Sox haven’t announced their starter, while the IronPigs will have Alan Rangel, who is 3-4 with a 3.74 ERA, a 1.28 WHIP, and 69 strikeouts in 65 innings.
