Boston Red Sox Notebook: Two Straight Home Wins, Trade Rumblings, and More 

The Boston Red Sox picked up a win in the middle game of their series against the Rangers, improving to 29–39. They’re 12.5 games back of the Yankees for the American League East. They’re five games back of the Athletics for the final spot in the American League wild card standings.

MLB Game Recap

The Rangers got on the board first in the top of the third with an RBI single. The Red Sox took the lead in the third as Mickey Gasper singled home a run, then Wilyer Abreu singled home another run, making it 2-1. The Rangers tied it in the fourth on a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the seventh, Ceddanne Rafaela singled home two runs, making it 4-2. The Rangers got one back in the eighth on a home run. In the bottom of the eighth, Jarren Duran hit a two-run home run to put the game away 6-3. 

Ranger Suarez went five innings, allowing two runs on six hits. He walked two and struck out seven. A combination of Justin Slaten, Garrett Whitlock, Tyron Guerrero, Danny Coulombe, and Aroldis Chapman went four innings, allowing a run on four hits. They didn’t issue a walk and struck out five. 

Standout Performer

Ceddanne Rafaela went 2-4 with a clutch two RBI single that led to the Red Sox’s win.

Aroldis Chapman continues to be a name to watch, but another name has popped up. The Phillies lost Aroldis Garcia to injury. They’re now poking around the outfield market, and Jarren Duran’s name is being linked as a name to watch. Just as he’s hot, riding a four-game hitting streak.
