MLB Game Recap

Willson Contreras got the Red Sox on the board in the first with an RBI double. They added to their lead in the second as Connor Wong hit a two-run home run to make it 3-0. The Rockies got two runs back in the third on an RBI double and a lineout that brought home a run. Andruw Monasterio hit a solo home run to make it 4-2. A few batters later, Ceddanne Rafaela singled home Wong to make it 5-2. The Rockies got an RBI single to make it 5-3. In the fifth, Anthony Seigler doubled home Marcelo Mayer after he doubled to make it 6-3. In the seventh, things unraveled. Mayer recorded an error, single after single after single, allowing Colorado to tie it 6-6. In the eighth, the Rockies added two more, and that was enough.

Ranger Suarez went six innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits. He walked one and struck out nine. Tyron Guerrero allowed three unearned runs on two hits and a strikeout. Danny Coulombe went 0.1 innings, allowing a hit, but escaped the threat. Justin Slaten in the eighth allowed two runs on four hits. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out one.

Standout Performer

Ceddanne Rafaela went 3-5 with an RBI and a run scored. He started off going 3-3 before he struck out twice in his final two at-bats.

Key News & Notes

The Red Sox should have gone 5-1 on the trip, but instead went 3-3. They averaged 4.2 runs per game on the trip while allowing 3.2 runs per game. One whole run per game, and it’s a split series. Hypothetically, say Monday ended 2-0 and today ended 6-3. They would have allowed 1.8 runs per game, crazy how those two games allow almost 1.5 runs per game more.

Caleb Durbin left the game in the third inning after sliding into first base. Mayer entered the game for him and went to shortstop. Seigler moved from second to third base, and Monasterio went from shortstop to second base. The Red Sox said Durbin suffered a left pinky dislocation. The injury comes at a tough time, as Durbin was red hot. In June, he’s hitting .317 with a .930 OPS. He had five doubles, four home runs, eight RBI, ten runs scored, three stolen bases, and three walks.

To make matters worse, Roman Anthony has not made any progress, according to Chad Tracy. He’ll occasionally try to swing a lighter bat, but hasn’t moved to a real bat or his normal hitting progression.
