AL Futures opened the scoring in the first after Red Sox top prospect Franklin Arias had an RBI groundout. Baseball’s top prospect Jesus Made tied the game as he brought home a run on a groundout, which made it 1-1.
A single by Rays top prospect Theo Gillen gave the AL Futures the lead, 2-1, in the top of the fifth. The Rays’ second-ranked prospect Nathan Flewelling added to the AL Futures lead with a two-run homer to right field, extending the lead to 4-1. In the seventh, JoJo Parker doubled home a run, and Ralphy Velazquez singled home a run to make it 6-1.
Pitching
Boston’s top pitching prospect, right-handed pitcher Anthony Eyanson, earned the win for AL Futures. He allowed zero hits and zero runs over one-third of an inning, striking out none and walking one. Padres fourth-ranked prospect Kash Mayfield took the loss for NL Futures. The southpaw went one inning, surrendering one run on one hit, striking out none and walking one.
Baseball’s top pitching prospect, left-handed pitcher Kade Anderson, opened the game for the AL Futures. The lefty surrendered one hit and zero runs over one inning, striking out none and walking none. Phillies top pitching prospect Gage Wood stepped on the mound first for the NL Futures. The hurler allowed one hit and one run over one inning, striking out none and walking none. Joseph Dzierwa (BAL), Kendry Chourio (KC), Tyler Bremner (LAA), Ben Grable (NYY), Ryan Sloan (SEA), and Caden Scarborough (TEX) each threw scoreless innings for the AL Futures in relief. Nolan Perry (TOR) allowed the NL’s lone run. The NL Futures’ top pitch prospect, Seth Hernandez for the Pirates, pitched a scoreless second without allowing a base runner and struck out two.
MVP
Flewelling (TB) led AL Futures with two runs batted in and was named the Larry Doby Award for MVP of the game. The catcher went 1-for-1 on the day.
