Series Recap: Philadelphia Phillies Split Series with Nationals

The Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals met for a four-game series over the weekend.

Game 1

The Philadelphia Phillies were coming into this game on a two-game losing streak. Jesus Luzardo got the ball against Brad Lord. The Phillies’ lone two runs came from Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper. The Nationals took the game 3-2 behind two RBI from Jose Tena and a solo home run from Paul DeJong. The Phillies saw their closer, Jhoan Duran, carted off.

Game 2

The Philadelphia Phillies snapped their losing skid in the second game. Zack Wheeler got the ball against MacKenzie Gore. Neither starter factored into the decision. The Phillies had five runs driven in from Schwarber and Harper again; Schwarber had three and Harper had two. The two lone Nationals runs were driven in by CJ Abrams and Daylen Lile

Game 3

The Phillies suffered a loss in the third game as their offense was shut down by Cade Cavalli from the Nationals. Taijuan Walker got the ball for Philadelphia. The lone runs came on a two-RBI double by James Wood.

Game 4

The Phillies salvaged the finale. Before the game, they activated right-handed pitcher Aaron Nola and third baseman Alec Bohm. Nola suffered in his return, giving up six runs in 2.1 innings. Mitchell Parker struggled on the other side as well. Bohm, on the other hand, went 2-4 with a three-run home run. Weston Wilson and Bryce Harper each drove in two, and Schwarber, Nick Castellanos, and Harrison Bader each drove in one. DeJohn drove in three for Washington, while Lile and Dylan Crews each drove in two. Tena and Abrams also added in RBI.

Outlook

The Phillies went 6-4 on the ten-game road trip, averaging 5.9 runs per game while allowing 3.6 runs per game. Now they’re home for the next games starting tonight against the Seattle Mariners.
