Seawolves Force Extras With Three-Run Ninth; Baysox Walk It Off
Erie trailed 6-3 entering the top of the ninth. Justice Bigbie hit a two-run home run to make it a one-run game when Andrew Jenkins hit a solo home run to tie it. In the bottom of the 11th, the Baysox would score on a wild pitch, which Anderson De Los Santos scored to give them the 7-6 win. Jeisson Cabrera got the win to improve to 8-2 on the year with his two scoreless innings in extras; he struck out three. Carlos Pena got the start for Erie, going 4.1 innings, allowing four runs, one earned, on three hits. He didn’t allow a walk and struck out seven.
Altoona Halts Akron Comeback to Take Series Opener
The Curve jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning behind a Murf Gray grand slam and a Lonnie White Jr. solo home run. Akron answered in the third with two-run home runs from Angel Martinez and Jacob Cozart, cutting the deficit to 7-4. White hit his second home run of the game in the fifth to extend the lead, and that run ultimately stood as the game-winner. Akron added an RBI groundout in the seventh before scoring twice in the eighth to pull within 8-7. The RubberDucks left the tying run stranded at third to end the threat.
Rains Wins Between New Hampshire and Somerset
The Patriots and Fisher Cats had their series opener rained out, and they will play two seven-inning games on Thursday.
Brannon’s Ninth-Inning Homer Leads Portland Over Binghamton
Binghamton had a three-run eighth inning to tie the game against Portland. In the top of the ninth, Brooks Brannon hit a solo home run to give them the lead 4-3, and it was enough to come away with a win. Portland also got solo home runs from Jack Winnay and Ronald Rosario. Bryce Conley got the start for Binghamton, going six innings, allowing three runs on four hits. He didn’t allow a walk and struck out nine.
Reading Scores Two Early to Beat Harrisburg
The Fighting Phils opened the scoring with an RBI single from Kehden Hettiger. That was followed by a throwing error on a pickoff attempt, allowing a run to score. Reading added in the eighth with a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch to make it 4-0 Phils. Caleb Lomavita drove in the lone Senators run on a ground out. Jean Cabrera picked up the win to improve to 3-4. He went six scoreless innings, allowing four hits. He walked one and struck out four. Kyle Luckham, in relief, went four shutout innings, allowing two hits. He walked one and struck out five.
Hartford and Richmond Dominated by Rain
The Yard Goats and Flying Squirrels were rained out last night and will play a doubleheader today.
