That win, combined with a Rochester Red Wings loss to the Toledo Mud Hens 9-6, allowed the Redbirds to clinch a playoff spot with the best record in the first half. They finished one game ahead of Rochester at 47-28, while Rochester is 45-28. The playoff format is that the first-place team in the first half clinches a playoff spot, and the best record in the league in the second half clinches the other spot.
This will be Memphis’ first playoff appearance since joining the International League. Their last playoff appearance came in 2018 in the Pacific Coast League, where they won the PCL Championship over the Oklahoma City Dodgers and the Triple-A Championship over the Durham Bulls.
