Hartford Yard Goats Clinch Playoff Spot

The Hartford Yard Goats suffered a 4-2 loss to the Reading Fightin Phils last night, but with Somerset’s 6-5 loss, it allowed Hartford to clinch a playoff spot. They hold a 2.5-game lead over the Patriots for first place in the Northeast Division. The first half of the season comes to a close after games conclude on Sunday. The playoff format is the first-place team in the first half clinches a playoff spot and the best record in the division for the second half; that’s not the first-half winner, who will clinch the other playoff spot. The Yard Goats are 38-28 entering play today, with two more games to go in the first half. 

This will be Hartford’s second playoff appearance in the last three seasons. The first season appearance, they were swept in the first round by the Patriots. It’s also the Yard Goats’ second playoff appearance in their ten-year existence.

Hartford Yard Goats Team Leaders 

Roc Riggio leads the Yard Goats with 16 doubles and ranks tied for fifth in the Eastern League. Bryant Bethancourt leads the team with 13 home runs and ranks tied for seventh in the league. The organization recently promoted Bethancourt to Triple-A. Aidan Longwell leads the team in RBI with 42, and he’s seventh in the league. 

Konner Eaton leads the team in ERA with a 3.76. He’s ninth in the Eastern League. Jake Brooks leads the team and the league in strikeouts with 65. Connor Staine is tenth in the league in ERA and trails Brooks in strikeouts by one.

Hartford is fourth in the Eastern League in batting average, with a team average of .251. They’re sixth in OPS with a .750. Hartford is fifth in home runs with 77. The Yard Goats are fifth in runs scored with 357. The Yard Goats are fifth in stolen bases with 96. 

Hartford has a 4.49 team ERA, which is fourth in the Eastern League and second in their division. They’re tenth in strikeouts with 582. As a team, they have a 1.44 WHIP.
