
The Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers began their three-game series. The Red Sox came out on top 5-4 as Jarren Duran collected three hits in the win. Duran hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the third inning.
Detroit got on the board in the sixth inning after an error scored two runs.
Boston Red Sox flipped the game on its head in the top of the seventh, scoring five runs on six hits to take the lead, 5-2. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run by Duran that drove in three.
Payton Tolle earned the win for Boston. The lefty surrendered one hit and two runs, none earned. He went seven innings, striking out eight and walking one. Ricky Vanasco took the loss for the Tigers. The righty went two-thirds of an inning, surrendering four runs on three hits, striking out none and walking one. Tyler Holton made the spot start for Detroit after Tarik Skubal was placed on the injured list. Skubal was the probable starter for tonight’s game. Hoton gave up two hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out one and walking none. Ty Madden had a bulk of the work as he went five shutout innings, striking out seven and allowing four hits. Aroldis Chapman collected the save.
News & Notes
Roman Anthony left the game as he flew back to Boston despite negative X-Rays on his wrist. Tarik Skubal was supposed to make the start tonight but it was announced he will be out 2-3 months as he’s having surgery on his left elbow and is heading to the injured list.
