Detroit Tigers Notebook: Finale Loss, Tigers Positives, and More

The Detroit Tigers dropped the finale to the Yankees. They dropped to 34-46. They’re 7.5 games back of the White Sox for the American League Central. They’re six games back of the Blue Jays for the final spot in the American League wild card standings.

MLB Game Recap

The Yankees led off the game with a home run. The Tigers in the home half of the second knotted things up with an RBI single from Zach McKinstry. The Yankees took a 2-1 lead in the third thanks to another solo home run. In the bottom of the fourth, Ben Malgeri hit a sacrifice fly to tie it at 2-2. The Yankees got a two-run home run in the sixth to make it 4-2. That was the final.

Tarik Skubal got the start, going six innings, allowing four runs on four hits. He didn’t allow a walk and struck out nine. He had a groin issue in the third as fans held their breath, but he remained. Jacob Waguespack went 1.2 scoreless and hitless innings. He didn’t allow a walk and struck out two. Enmanuel De Jesus went 1.1 innings, allowing two hits, no runs, no walks, and striking out two.

Standout Performer

Spencer Torkelson went 1-3 and scored both Tigers runs in the loss. His lone hit was a double he also reached on a walk.

Key News & Notes

Despite losing the series, the Tigers hung around with one of the best teams in baseball. The Yankees didn’t have Aaron Judge or Giancarlo Stanton, so that’s a big difference, but they still competed and were in the two losses. Some positives to take away.

They’re entering the Houston series 4-2 on the home stand ahead of the four-game series. They’re averaging 3.8 runs per game while allowing 3.2 runs per game.
