The team ended with an 83-79 season. They finished third in the NL Central. The Dodgers swept them in the Wildcard round of the playoffs. The Cincinnati Reds have been quiet this offseason with roster moves. The team was mentioned in plenty of rumors for an outfield bat. Today, they signed a familiar face, right-handed power bat Eugenio Suarez. The third baseman has signed a one year 15 million deal with a mutual option for the 2027 season.

Eugenio Suarez

The Cincinnati Reds traded Eugenio Suarez on March 14th, 2022, along with Jesse Winkler. In return, Cincinnati received Justin Dunn, Jake Fraley, Brandon Williamson, and Connor Phillips in a trade with Seattle. Even at age 34, Suarez is a big bat. He is one of the last ones left in the Free Agent pool. Spring Training camp is approaching. Last year he played in 159 games, 53 with the Mariners after the Diamondbacks traded him away. Eugenio Suarez had 28 doubles, 49 home runs, and 118 RBI last year. He had a .228 batting average, a .792 OPS, and 196 strikeouts last season. Over the last four season the third baseman has played in 145, 150, 162, and 158 games.

Wrap Up

The Cincinnati Reds needed a big right-handed bat for the middle of their order. Suarez is a great fit. He will most likely spend his time in the DH role. This is because defensive ace Ke’Bryan Hayes will be manning the hot corner this season. Eugenio Suarez will have plenty of RBI opportunities with Elly De La Cruz hitting ahead of him in the order. The Reds will need lots of power. This is essential if they want to compete in the postseason in the National League. The Mets, Dodgers, and Cubs all got better this offseason.
