MLB Game Recap

Friday’s series opener was postponed due to persistent rain that is expected to continue until Saturday morning. The two teams will play a day-night doubleheader. The first game has a first pitch set for 1:10 PM. The second game remains at 7:15 PM on Fox.

Standout Performer

The most significant MLB development is the return of Eugenio Suarez. He was activated on Friday after recovering from a mild left oblique strain. Before his stint on the IL, the veteran DH posted a .231 batting average, three home runs, a .663 OPS, and 11 RBIs over 25 games. Manager Terry Francona emphasized Suarez’s veteran energy. He will be vital today. The club will “pick spots” for him to ensure he remains healthy.

Key News & Notes

The Reds placed third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes on the 10-day IL. This is retroactive to May 21. The reason is a lumbar bulging disc. The club has officially activated Suarez. They confirmed that prospect Chase Petty will serve as the 27th man for today’s doubleheader. Relievers Caleb Ferguson and Josh Staumont are both estimated to be available for return today. Meanwhile, righty Rhett Lowder is progressing well from shoulder soreness and is expected to face live hitters early next week.

Looking Ahead

A day-night doubleheader begins today at 1:10 PM with Chris Paddack (0-5, 7.07 ERA) facing St. Louis Andre Pallante. The 7:15 PM nightcap features Chase Petty (0-0, 4.76 ERA) making his second big-league start of the season against Kyle Leahy.

A split doubleheader with a reshuffled roster will test the Reds’ depth immediately. What do you think?
