Roster Moves
The Red Sox made a few roster moves on their off day. They first activated left-handed pitcher Patrick Sandoval from the injured list, and he will start Thursday against Chicago. To make room for Sandoval, they optioned left-handed pitcher Alec Gamboa to Triple-A Worcester and designated right-handed pitcher for assignment.
Sandoval, in eight rehab starts between Worcester and Portland, went 0-2. He posted a 3.42 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP, and 22 strikeouts in 23.2 innings. Gamboa, in his most recent call-up, made two appearances, posting a 5.40 ERA, a 2.10 WHIP, and one strikeout in 3.1 innings. Anderson in Worcester this season in 16 appearances, with 11 coming as starts; he’s 2-4 with a 4.81 ERA, a 1.37 WHIP, and 51 strikeouts in 58 innings. He made three appearances for Boston, posting a 3.38 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP, and six strikeouts in eight innings.

The Red Sox went 12-14 in June. Pitching, they posted a 3.55 ERA, the third best in baseball, a 3.56 FIP, which was second in the league, and a 1.22 WHIP, which was ninth. They hit .233, which was 24th, had a .689 OPS, also 24th, an 86 wRC+, which was 27th, and 29 home runs, which tied for 23rd. Ranger Suarez and Sonny Gray led the way in ERA.
