The Boston Red Sox completed their second sweep of the season last night, improving to 22-27. They’re 11.5 games back of the Rays for first place in the American League East. They’re two games back of the Texas Rangers for the final spot in the American League wild card standings.

MLB Game Recap

The Royals scored first in the bottom of the first inning. The Red Sox took the lead in the next half inning, first tying it with an RBI single by Nick Sogard, then Carlos Narvaez drove home a run on a groundout to third base. The Royals took the lead back behind a two-run home run to make it 3-2. Jarren Duran continued his hot stretch as he hit a two-run home run to give the Red Sox a 4-3 lead. Things got a little dicey in the ninth with a runner in scoring position with one out, but Aroldis Chapman got out of it, and the Red Sox completed the sweep. Connelly Early went 6.1 innings, giving up three runs on six hits. He walked one and struck out five.

Standout Performer

Jarren Duran had a great series and in this game he delivered the crucial home run. He went 2-5 with two RBI, and a run scored.

Key News & Notes

The Red Sox are now 14-13 on the road. They return home on Friday night where they are 8-14. They’ve gained some momentum now and may have turned things around finishing off a six-game road trip going 4-2 in which they averaged 3.3 runs per game while allowing three runs per game. They won every game during the trip in which they scored three or more runs.
