The Red Sox jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single from Willson Contreras. The Royals tied it up in the bottom half. Boston would take the lead back in the second as Caleb Durbin drove home a run to make it 2-1. The Red Sox added a run in the eighth on an RBI groundout by Contreras. In the ninth, the bats exploded as Jarren Duran hit a three-run home run, then Contreras added his third RBI of the game with a single to make it 7-1, which was the final. Ranger Suarez went 4.1 innings, allowing a run on four hits; he walked three and struck out three. The bullpen combined to go 4.2 innings of shutout ball, allowing just two base runners and striking out seven.

Jarren Duran went 2-3 with a double, a three-run homer, two walks, and two runs scored. He contributed to four of the seven Boston runs in the win.
Key News & Notes
The win secured the Red Sox the series win over the Royals, which is only their fifth series win of the season. Tonight, they can go for the sweep, which would be their second of the season; the other came two weeks ago against Detroit. The Red Sox also improved to 13-13 on the road this season.
