Series Recap: Philadelphia Phillies Sweep the Texas Rangers

The Philadelphia Phillies and Texas Rangers met for a three-game series this weekend, with the Phillies taking all three games, outscoring the Rangers 16-5 in the series.

Game 1:

Cristopher Sanchez got the ball in the series opener facing Merrill Kelly for the Rangers. Sanchez went six innings, giving up one run on six hits. He walked one and struck out six. Kelly went 4.1 innings, giving up four runs on five hits. He walked five and struck out four. The Phillies took the game 9-1 behind Kyle Schwarber, Brandon Marsh, and Trea Turner’s home runs. Turner finished with five RBI. The lone Rangers run came via Josh Jung.

Game 2:

In the middle game, the Phillies had Jesus Luzardo facing Jacob deGrom for the Rangers. Luzardo went six innings, allowing a run on seven hits. He walked one and struck out four. deGrom went 6.2 innings, giving up three runs on six hits. He walked one and struck out eight. The Phillies took this one 3-2 behind two RBI from Max Kepler and an RBI from Bryson Stott. The Rangers got a solo home run from Corey Seager and an RBI from Wyatt Langford.

Game 3:

The Phillies had Zack Wheeler in the finale, facing Patrick Corbin for Texas. Wheeler went five innings, giving up two runs on three hits. He walked three and struck out seven. Corbin went 4.1 innings, giving up three runs on four hits. He walked three and struck out one. The Phillies completed the sweep with a 4-2 win. Edmundo Sosa hit a solo home run, with Bryce Harper, Marsh, and Weston Wilson also driving in runs. The Rangers’ two runs came on a Joc Pederson two-run blast.
