NCAA Baseball Tournament Day 6: Three Teams Punch Ticket for Omaha

All eight games of the Super Regionals were played today, with four teams looking to punch their tickets for Omaha. The other four games were game ones.

Georgia & Mississippi State Combine for 25 runs

The Mississippi State Bulldogs jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second inning. Georgia answered with nine runs combined in the fourth and fifth innings. The latter part of the game saw nine runs combined between the two teams as Georgia took game one. Michael O’Shaughnessy hit two home runs, driving in five runs.

West Virginia Omaha Bound

The Mountaineers put up 17 runs in a 17-1 over Cal Poly. Ben Lumsden went 3-5 with five RBI, including a three-run home run and a two-run home run. The Mountaineers outscored Cal Poly 29-3 in their two games. It’s the first time in school history for the Mountaineers to reach the College World Series.

North Carolina Force Winner-Take-All

The Tar Heels used brilliant pitching from Jason DeCaro to shut down the Trojans. He went nine innings, allowing two hits and a walk; he struck out eight. Colin Hynek went 2-4 with a solo home run in the win.

Troy Advances

The Trojans’ Cinderella story continues as they swept Little Rock; they outscored them 19-4 in the two games. Tommy Egan went 7.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out eight. Drew Nelson led the way at the plate, going 1-4 with two RBI on a double.

Ole Miss Advances

The Rebels, with the game tied 2-2 in the eighth, got three runs on a two-run homer and a solo home run. It was a pitcher’s duel to start as Taylor Rabe went seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits. He walked one and struck out eight. Auburn had Alex Petrovic, who went 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He walked two and struck out five.

Oklahoma Beats Kansas

The Sooners put up four runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to fuel their offense. The Jayhawks did get a run back, but the Sooners moved one win away from Omaha. Dayton Tockey hit a three-run home run, leading to the win.

Texas Dominates Oregon 

Texas scored a run in six of the eight innings. Adrian Rodriguez led the way going 2-3 driving in five runs and scoring a run. Dylan Volantis went 5.1 innings giving up two runs on eight hits. He walked four and struck out ten.

Alabama Shuts Out Red Storm

Justin LeBron went 3-4 with two RBI to lead the offense in an 8-0 win. Tyler Fay went 7.1 shutout innings picking up the win. He allowed two hits, walked three, and struck out nine.
