First Round Options
RHP – Liam Peterson – Florida
Peterson is the 20th-ranked draft prospect. He went 3-6 in 16 starts at Florida. He posted a 4.59 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP, and 111 strikeouts in 84.1 innings.
RHP – Tegan Kuhns – Tennessee
The Red Sox love pitching, and that trend could continue if they pivot from Peterson and like Kuhns more. He’s the 25th-ranked draft prospect. This season he went 5-5 with a 3.56 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP, and 106 strikeouts in 81 innings.
3B – Ace Reese – Mississippi State
If the Red Sox go bat, there are some intriguing options. Reese is the 18th-ranked prospect, so it’s likely he’s not there, but if he is, it would be a nice pick for Boston. He hit .336 with a 1.152 OPS. He had 24 home runs, 74 RBI, and 73 runs scored.
C – Daniel Jackson – Georgia
Jackson is the 28th-ranked prospect. he also won the Golden Spikes Award for the best college player this past season. Jackson hit .379 with a 1.276 OPS. He had 32 home runs with 87 RBI and 88 runs scored.
OF – Aiden Robbins – Texas
Robbins is the 29th-ranked draft prospect and would give the Red Sox some outfielder help in their system despite them already having a jam-packed outfield to begin with. He hit .333 with a 1.122 OPS. He had 24 home runs, 64 RBI, and 68 runs scored.
Pick 67
OF – Owen Hull – North Carolina
Hull is one of my favorite second-round picks. After watching him perform to get North Carolina to Omaha and seeing what he did there, he would be a great pick for the Red Sox. He hit .393 this season with a 1.115 OPS. He had nine home runs, 87 RBI, and 60 runs scored.
RHP – Joey Volchko – Georgia
Volchko impressed in his starts during the tournament. He made 18 starts this season at Georgia. He went 11-2 with a 3.68 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP, and 119 strikeouts in 95.1 innings.
C – Carson Tinney – Texas
If the Red Sox don’t take Jackson, Tinney is a nice bat to add to their prospect group, and his development could be huge for Boston. He hit .326 with a 1.171 OPS. He had 22 home runs, 58 RBI, and 68 runs scored.
Pick 96
RHP – Ryan Lynch – North Carolina
Lynch was impressive in Omaha. In 18 appearances, he went 2-1 with a 6.63 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP, and 21 strikeouts in 19 innings. He’d be a nice piece for Andrew Bailey to work on.
C/1B – Deiten Lachance – Oklahoma
Lachance is another name to watch if the Red Sox don’t get Jackson or Tinney. He put his name on the map during the College World Series. Lachance hit .327 with a 1.005 OPS. He had 18 home runs, 69 RBI, and 50 runs scored.
SS – Jaxon Willits – Oklahoma
Willits is interesting; he’s the younger brother of Eli Willits with the Nationals. He was solid this past season, hitting .313 with a .922 OPS. He had seven home runs, 55 RBI, and 38 runs scored.
