MLB Game Recap

The Reds dropped their last outing to the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night in a 5-2 loss. Starting pitcher Chase Burns dominated through six innings. He allowed two runs on four hits and struck out nine. However, the bullpen struggled. Tony Santillan surrendered three runs in the ninth. The game turned when Michael Massey hit a tiebreaking RBI single. Nick Loftin then hit a home run to seal the Royals’ victory.

Standout Performer

Outfielder Blake Dunn led the offense on Wednesday by going 2-for-4 with a game-tying two-run home run. His blast in the fifth inning drove in Matt McLain. It provided nearly all of the runs for Cincinnati in the contest. The team ultimately lost. However, Dunn’s multi-hit performance provided a necessary power boost. The lineup is currently missing several key starters.

Key News & Notes

Roster moves dominated Thursday’s off-day. The Reds traded right-hander Kyle Nicolas to the Orioles for cash. They sent both Brandon Leibrandt and Lyon Richardson outright to Triple-A Louisville. Catcher Jose Trevino officially started his rehab assignment with the Louisville Bats on Thursday. This marks a critical step toward his return to the active roster. Additionally, shortstop Elly De La Cruz remains in Arizona. He begins treatment for a moderate Grade 1 to 2 hamstring strain.
