MLB Game Recap

The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Reds 7-2 on Tuesday night. They broke open a tie game with a four-run outburst in the fourth inning. Reds starter Rhett Lowder struggled through 4.2 innings, allowing career-highs in both hits (11) and strikeouts (8) while surrendering six earned runs. Sal Stewart hit an early home run. However, Brewers’ starter Brandon Sproat and three relievers held the Cincinnati offense to just six hits.

Standout Performer

Sal Stewart provided the bulk of the Reds’ offensive production. He finished the night 2-for-4 with a 382-foot home run, a double, and two RBI. Stewart briefly gave Cincinnati the lead in the first inning with his 16th homer of the year. He later added an RBI double in the sixth to drive in Elly De La Cruz.

Key News & Notes

The Cincinnati Reds’ bullpen received a major boost on Tuesday. Closer Emilio Pagan returned from the injured list. He recovered from a hamstring injury. Manager Terry Francona also provided positive updates on the rotation. He noted that Hunter Greene is scheduled to be activated this Saturday.

Farm Report

  • Triple-A (Louisville Bats): Carlos Jorge went 2-for-5 with a double and four RBI in a 5-4 loss to Columbus. Jorge’s productive Triple-A debut accounted for all of the Bats’ runs in a game that ended on a walk-off single.
  • Double-A (Chattanooga Lookouts): Ruben Ibarra had an impressive performance. He finished 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBI. The game against Biloxi was suspended in the 5th inning. The Lookouts were leading 6-5 at that moment. The contest was halted due to rain and is scheduled to be completed as part of a Wednesday doubleheader.
  • High-A (Dayton Dragons): David Lorduy threw 5.0 shutout innings of relief with two hits and four strikeouts in a 7-6 loss in 11 innings to Lansing. Lorduy’s dominant performance out of the bullpen was crucial for the Dragons. His effort kept them competitive in a marathon game. Three defensive errors ultimately decided the game.
  • Single-A (Daytona Tortugas): Stharlin Torres allowed just one run on five hits with six strikeouts over 5.0 innings in a 3-2 loss to Bradenton. Despite the quality start from Torres, a ninth-inning walk-off single by the Marauders spoiled the Daytona effort.
  • Rookie (ACL Reds): Diorland Zambrano excelled by going 3-for-4. He contributed two RBI and a stolen base. Despite these efforts, the team suffered a 4-3 loss to the ACL Angels. Zambrano was a bright spot in the lineup, accounting for three of the team’s five total hits.

Deep Dive: 5 Reds Players with Murky Long-Term Outlooks

The Cincinnati Reds sit at the bottom of the NL Central. Several players, once considered cornerstones of the future, are facing increasing uncertainty regarding their status beyond 2026. Spencer Steer remains a versatile fan favorite. However, his lack of a true defensive home is becoming a liability. He is considered a below-average defender at every position except first base. This leads to speculation that he could be a trade candidate. Similarly, pitcher Nick Lodolo’s future is uncertain because of recurring blister issues. These issues have hampered his availability. The Reds must decide whether to shop him this winter or offer an incentive-laden extension.

The outlook is also shifting for Matt McLain and Noelvi Marte. McLain missed the 2024 season following shoulder surgery. He has struggled to regain his rookie-year form. The team recently moved him to center field. Some see this move as a sign that they lack a definitive plan for him. Marte’s transition to the outfield has been unsuccessful so far. He faces issues due to a previous PED suspension. Moreover, he struggles against breaking balls. Finally, veteran TJ Friedl had a wretched start to 2026. His performance plummeted, resulting in a demotion to the minor leagues. He is now a potential non-tender candidate later this year.

Looking Ahead

The Reds look to even the series on Wednesday night with Andrew Abbott (5-4, 3.90 ERA) taking the mound against Milwaukee’s Shane Drohan (3-2, 3.12 ERA).

The pitching staff is finally getting healthy, but can the offense find consistency before the trade deadline? What do you think?
