The Boston Red Sox picked up a 17-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles this afternoon. Shortly after the win, the Red Sox relieved five coaches from their jobs. Manager Alex Cora was fired along with bench coach Ramon Vazquez, hitting coach Peter Fatse, assistant hitting coach Dillon Lawson, third base coach Kyle Hudson, hitting strategy coach Joe Cronin. Game planning coach Jason Varitek will be reassigned to a new role. The one shocking coach staying put is pitching coach Andrew Bailey. Chad Tracy will serve as the interim manager of the Red Sox.

Alex Cora

Cora led the Red Sox to 108 wins in 2018 and a World Series title. Since then, he has gone 512-487. Cora overall finished his Red Sox tenure going 619-541 with a .534 winning percentage. The Red Sox are in last place in the American League despite today’s win, and he has only appeared in three playoff appearances over eight seasons. In 2021, the Red Sox lost in the ALCS, while last season, in their third appearance under Cora, they lost in the Wild Card round to the Yankees. Cora signed an extension in 2024 to remain in Boston.

Peter Fatse

People have been calling for Fatse for some time now. The Red Sox are hitting .233 and rank 18th. They have 18 home runs, tied for last in baseball. Boston has scored 112 runs, tied for 20th in baseball. Just not a good start to the season, and the Red Sox have cleaned out quite a bit this afternoon.
