Key News & Notes

The first game of the doubleheader will be at 1:35 PM EST, with the second game starting at 7:10 PM EST. The pitcher for game one will be Jake Bennett, who’s been phenomenal as of late. In his last five starts, he’s 4-0 with a 0.81 ERA, a 0.63 WHIP, and 25 strikeouts in 33 innings. In his last three starts, he’s 3-0 with a 0.87 ERA, a 0.58 WHIP, and 13 strikeouts in 20.2 innings. This season, he’s 5-3 with a 2.35 ERA, a 0.88 WHIP, and 38 strikeouts in 53.2 innings.

Ranger Suarez could get the second game. He is 4-3 with a 3.15 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP, and 97 strikeouts in 91.1 innings. Suárez posted a 2-0 record over his last five starts before going on the injured list. He had a 3.07 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and 34 strikeouts in 26.1 innings. His last outing came on July 5th against the Angels, going 2.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He didn’t allow a walk and struck out five.

Eduardo Rivera was slated to start last night, pushing Suarez to today and allowing everyone an extra day of rest. The rain helped with that but also allowed the bullpen a day of rest, and they will still have a day off on Thursday.

The Red Sox recalled Zack Kelly yesterday and placed him on the 60-day injured list with right elbow inflammation. He’s 0-2 with a 3.31 ERA, a 1.28 WHIP, and 14 strikeouts in 16.1 innings in 17 appearances with Boston. In 12 appearances at Triple-A, he’s 1-0 with a 5.71 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP, and 14 strikeouts in 17.1 innings.
