Atlanta picked up a 5-2 win over the Cubs to start their three-game series. Mike Yastrzemski got the scoring started with an RBI single. The Cubs took the lead in the fourth on an Alex Bregman solo home run and Moises Ballesteros driving in a run. The Braves’ offense took the game over in the fifth with a solo home run from Austin Riley, a two-run home run from Yastrzemski, and an RBI single by Matt Olson, making it 5-2. Grant Holmes went four innings, allowing two runs on a hit. He walked four and struck out five. Didier Fuentes impressed, going three scoreless innings, allowing a walk and striking out three. Dylan Lee and Raisel Iglesias shut the door in the eighth and ninth for the wins.

Mike Yastrzemski went 2-2 with three RBI, which single-handedly would have won the game. He had a two-run home run and an RBI single in the first to lead Atlanta.

Key News & Notes

The Braves were active yesterday before the game. They signed catcher Sandy Leon after they lost Sean Murphy for likely eight weeks with a fractured finger. They activated and selected the contract of Jose Azocar and optioned shortstop Jim Jarvis to Triple-A.
