The Washington Nationals are coming off an opening series win over the Chicago Cubs this past weekend. They now head into Philadelphia to take on division foes. Foster Griffin will take the mound for the Nationals against Taijuan Walker for the Phillies. First pitch is 6:40 PM at Citizens Bank Park. Ahead of tonight’s game with the Phillies the Washington Nationals have announced two roster moves.

Curtis Mead

Curtis Mead was activated by the Washington Nationals before today’s game with the Philadelphia Phillies. Mead split last season between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Chicago White Sox. In 90 games last season, Mead had a .233/.299/.287 slash line. Mead had ten doubles, one triple, three home runs, and 19 RBI last season.

Andres Chaparro

The Washington Nationals have optioned Andres Chaparro to the Rochester Red Wings in Triple-A. In the opening series against the Cubs, Chaparro had two hits, one double, scored one run, and slashed .333/.429/.500. Last season, he played in 34 games for the Nationals. He had one home run, two doubles, five RBI, and had a .182/.247/.258 slashline.

Chaparro last year in Triple-A with Rochester played in 48 games. He had a .275/.384/.577 slash line. Chaparro hit 13 doubles, 14 home runs, and had 45 RBI.

Summary

Chaparro offers more at the plate than Mead does. Honestly, I would’ve liked to see him stick around for another series or two before making any moves. His power upside-down alone would have been reason enough to let him hang around a bit longer. Let’s see how this pans out for the Washington Nationals.
