Texas Rangers Prospect Check In: Week 5

The Texas Rangers had a somewhat disappointing week this week. Of the six games the squad played, the team dropped four, won one, and tied one. The Rangers ended Cactus League play with a record of 11-16-4 to include the two exhibitions with the Boston Red Sox on Monday and Tuesday.

OF – Evan Carter

Evan Carter appeared in four of the six games this week. He was 1-12 with one hit, two walks, and four strikeouts. Carter has a spring slash line of .264/.344/.396 across 53 at-bats with nine runs, 14 hits, one double, two home runs, ten RBIs, five walks, thirteen strikeouts, two stolen bases, and an OPS of .740. According to MLB.com, he is tied for 9th in RBIs, 5th in runs, and 10th in hits.

OF – Wyatt Langford

Wyatt Langford appeared in five of the six games. He went 6-18 with two runs, six hits, three RBIs, one walk, four strikeouts, and his sixth home run. His slash line for spring training is .378/.442/.756 thus far with 63 at-bats, 14 runs, 23 hits, four doubles, six home runs, 20 RBIs, six walks, 17 strikeouts, and an OPS of 1.137. Langford fell from 1st to 3rd in OPS and 4th in batting average this week. He remained tied for 2nd in home runs. He also ranks 1st in RBIs, tied for 2nd in runs and 1st in hits. The Texas Rangers announced on Sunday, March 24th, 2024 that Wyatt Langford would break camp with the team.

INF – Sebastian Walcott

Sebastian Walcott made one appearance this week, going 0-1 with no runs, hits, RBIs, walks, or strikeouts. His spring slash line is .000/.571/.000, with two runs, four walks, one strikeout, one stolen base, and an OPS of .500.

RHP – Brock Porter

Brock Porter did not appear in any game throughout Spring Training with the Major League club.

INF – Justin Foscue

Justin Foscue played in five of the six games this week. He went 1-8 with one hit, no runs, RBIs or walks, and two strikeouts. His spring slash line is .250/.315/.396 with six runs, twelve hits, four doubles, six RBIs, two walks, 14 strikeouts, and an OPS of .711. On March 25th, 2024, Justin Foscue was optioned back down to the Round Rock Express.

INF – Abimelec Ortiz

Abimelec Ortiz appeared in one of the six games this week. He went 0-1 with no hits, runs RBIs, or walks and one strikeout. He has a spring slash line of .091/231/.182 with one run, one hit, one double, one walk and seven strikeouts with an OPS of .413.

INF – Davis Wendzel

Davis Wendzel played in one of the six games this week, going 1-3 with one hit, one run, and no RBIs, walks, or strikeouts. This spring, Wendzel is hitting .366/.413/.537 with eight runs, 15 hits, four doubles, one home run, ten RBIs, three walks, one stolen base, ten strikeouts, and an OPS of .950.

OF – Jonathan Ornelas

Jonathan Ornelas has appeared in two of the six games. He went 0-2 with no strikeouts this week. This spring, he is hitting .240/.296/.320 with four runs, six hits, two doubles, no home runs, two RBIs, two walks, one stolen base, five strikeouts, and an OPS of .616.

RHP – Jack Leiter

Jack Leiter appeared in one game this week. He pitched 2.2 innings, recording four hits, two earned runs, one walk, one home run, and five strikeouts. He has appeared in six games during spring training and has a recorded ERA of 4.26 across 12.2 innings and a WHIP of 1.26.

INF – Cam Cauley

Cameron Cauley appeared in three of the six games this week and went 1-3 with two strikeouts. This spring, he is hitting .68/.429/.684 with eight runs, seven hits, one double, one triple, one home run, three RBIs, one walk, one stolen base, five strikeouts, and an OPS of 1.113.

Week Ahead:

This week, the defending World Series Champions will face off against the Chicago Cubs to open the 2024 season. The Round Rock Express, the franchise AAA team will begin their season at home against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, the AAA affiliate of the Houston Astros.
