Evan Carter was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee, on August 29, 2002. He played high school baseball at Elizabethton High School in Elizabethton, TN. He was the third-ranked outfielder and the 12th-ranked overall player in Tennessee. In his senior year, Carter played in 22 games and hit .344 with 21 hits, one double, nine triples, one home run, 16 RBI, and 29 runs scored. He also pitched, making ten appearances, going 6-0 with a 0.70 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 50 innings. Carter was ranked the 104th outfielder in the country and as the 500th-ranked overall player. He committed to play college baseball at Duke University.

2022

Carter played for across two levels with High-A Hickory and Double-A Frisco. In 106 games, he slashed .295/.397/.489 with a .885 OPS; he had 21 doubles, ten triples, 12 home runs, 73 RBI, 86 runs scored, 28 stolen bases, and 64 walks.

2023

Carter ranked as the 26th prospect by Baseball American and 41st by MLB.com entering the season. He played for the Rangers rookie ball team, Double-A Frisco, and Triple-A Round Rock. He also made his major league debut with the Rangers. In the minors, he played in 108 games and slashed .288/.413/.450 with a .863 OPS. He had 17 doubles, six triples, and 13 home runs. He also tallied 67 RBI, 79 runs, 26 stolen bases, and 81 walks. With the Rangers, he played in 23 games and slashed .307/.413.645 with a 1.059 OPS; he had four doubles, one triple, five home runs, 12 RBI, 15 runs scored, three stolen bases, and 12 walks. He burst onto the scene in the playoffs when he slashed .300/.417/.500 with a .917 OPS; he had nine doubles, one home run, six RBI, nine runs scored, three stolen bases, and ten walks.

Carter entered 2024 as the fourth-ranked prospect by Baseball America and the fifth-ranked prospect by MLB Pipeline. He spent all 2024 with the Rangers playing in 45 games hitting .188 with a .633 OPS. Carter had six doubles, two triples, five home runs, 15 RBI, and 23 runs scored.
