St. Louis Cardinals Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The St. Louis Cardinals will start a three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians tonight. They’re coming off a series loss to the Boston Red Sox over the weekend. They’re 3-2 in their last five games, averaging four runs per game while allowing five runs per game. Ahead of tonight’s game, they designated left-handed pitcher Jared Shuster for assignment. To take his spot, they recalled right-handed pitcher Ryan Fernandez from Triple-A Memphis. They also were returned right-handed pitcher Cade Winquest from the New York Yankees.

Jared Shuster

Shuster has appeared in two games for the Cardinals this season, posting a 4.91 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, and a strikeout in 3.2 innings. He pitched three innings on Sunday against the Red Sox, allowing two runs on two hits; he walked two and recorded that one strikeout. He has also made one appearance at Triple-A Memphis, and he got the win despite allowing four runs on five hits in three innings; he didn’t issue a walk and struck out four in that appearance.

Ryan Fernandez

Fernandez, in six games at Triple-A Memphis this season, has yet to allow a run on three hits. He has walked two and struck out six in 5.2 innings. Fernandez is posting a 0.88 WHIP. He appeared in 32 games for St. Louis last season, going 0-4. He had a 7.71 ERA, a 1.71 WHIP, and 34 strikeouts in 30.1 innings.

Cade Winquest

Winquest was acquired in the Rule 5 draft by the Yankees, but he was cut and has now returned to St. Louis. In 25 appearances with 23 coming as starts between High-A and Double-A last season, he went 5-7 with a 3.99 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP, and 110 strikeouts in 106 innings.
