Shane Bieber Struggled in Rehab Outing

This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons faced the Charlotte Knights in the second game of their six-game series this week. Buffalo won the first game 9-5 last night to start things off. Shane Bieber made his fifth rehab start, which was his third with Buffalo. Entering today’s start, he was 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA, a 1.75 WHIP, and 12 strikeouts in 12 innings. In his two starts at Buffalo, he is 1-0 with a 3.52 ERA, a 1.56 WHIP, and seven strikeouts in 7.2 innings. All positive signs until today’s start. Charlotte got to him in the second for four runs on an RBI single and three three-run home runs. He started the sixth inning, allowing a solo home run to make it 5-0. The Bisons lost the game 5-1.

Bieber went five innings, allowing five runs on seven hits. He walked four and struck out two. He dropped to 1-2 with a 6.88 ERA, a 1.88 WHIP, and 14 strikeouts in 17 innings. In three games at Buffalo, now he is 1-1 with a 5.69 ERA, a 1.82 WHIP, and nine strikeouts in 12.2 innings.

Other Game Notes:

The lone Buffalo run came on a Sean Keys solo home run. Since being called up to Triple-A, he’s played in 11 games, hitting .343 with a .771 OPS. He has four doubles, a triple, three home runs, nine RBI, six runs scored, and eight walks. Adam Macko also pitched in the game, going one inning, allowing two hits, no runs, no walks, and striking out three. Kyle Teel also made a rehab appearance for Charlotte, going 1-4 in the game.
