Cleveland Guardians vs Texas Rangers 5/13-15/15

The Texas Rangers returned to Arlington, Texas, to open a six-game homestand when the team welcomed the Cleveland Guardians to Globe Life Field for a three-game set. Here’s what you need to know about the three games on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Monday, May 13
The Rangers started a three-game set against the Guardians on the wrong foot on Josh Jung Jungle-cat Bobblehead night. The Rangers were blanked by the Guardians 7-0. Texas fell to 22-21, while Cleveland improved to 26-16.

After seven scoreless innings, Cleveland broke the scoreless deadlock with four runs in the top of the eighth inning. Brayan Rocchio singled on a fly ball to Leody Taveras. Estevan Florial scored to put the Guardians on the board 1-0. Rocchio went to second base. Jose Ramirez singled on a line drive to Taveras. Rocchio and Tyler Freeman scored to give the Guardians a 3-0 lead. Ramirez went to second base, while Andres Gimenez went to third base. Jacob Latz threw a wild pitch that scored Gimenez and made it a 4-0 game. Ramirez went to third base, while Josh Naylor went to second base.

As if things couldn’t get any worse, Cleveland’s offense continued its onslaught against the Rangers and tacked on three runs in the top of the ninth inning. Andres Gimenez doubled on a line drive to Ezequiel Duran. Brayan Rocchio scored for a 5-0 lead. Tyler Freeman went to third base. Jose Ramirez singled on a ground ball to Leody Taveras. Freeman and Gimenez scored to extend the Guardians’ lead to 7-0.

The Rangers suffered a 7-0 shutout against the Guardians and lost four of their last five games. For Texas, Jonah Heim went 0-for-4. And, for Cleveland, Emmanuel Clase pitched one inning and gave up two strikeouts. Rangers pitcher Michael Lorenzen pitched seven innings and gave up one hit, four walks, and four strikeouts. Meanwhile, Guardians pitcher Tanner Bibee pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up three hits, two walks, and four strikeouts.

Tuesday, May 14
The Rangers hosted the Guardians for the middle game and dropped a 7-4 decision. Texas fell to 22-22, while Cleveland improved to 27-16.

Rangers pitcher Jack Leiter pitched just 1 2/3 innings and gave up three hits, six earned runs, three walks, and one strikeout before leaving the mound. Meanwhile, Guardians pitcher Ben Lively pitched five innings and gave up five hits, three earned runs, three walks, and five strikeouts.

After a scoreless first inning, Cleveland scored a whopping six runs in the top of the second inning. Bo Naylor doubled on a sharp fly ball to Leody Taveras. Kyle Manzardo and Estevan Florial scored for a 2-0 lead. Andres Gimenez singled on a line drive to Taveras. Naylor scored to make it a 3-0 game. Tyler Freeman went to second base. Josh Naylor homered on a fly ball to right field. Freeman and Gimenez scored to extend the Guardians’ lead to 6-0 to end the inning.

The Rangers quickly responded with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Adolis Garcia homered on a fly ball to left field to reduce the Guardians’ lead to 6-1. The Rangers added a run in the bottom of the third inning. Corey Seager homered on a line drive to right field to reduce the Guardians’ lead to 6-2. The Rangers tacked on a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Nathaniel Lowe homered on a fly ball to right field to cut the Guardians’ lead in half, 6-3.

The Rangers added to the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. Josh Smith singled on a sharp line drive to Tyler Freeman. Adolis Garcia scored to cut the Guardians’ lead to 6-4. The Rangers pulled within three runs in the top of the ninth inning, but it was too little, too late. Andres Gimenez was out on a sacrifice fly to Leody Taveras. Brayan Rocchio scored to increase the Guardians’ lead to 7-4. Tyler Freeman went to third base with one out. The Rangers lost to the Guardians 7-4 after nine innings. For Texas, Nathaniel Lowe went 1-for-5. And, for Cleveland, Emmanuel Clase pitched one inning.

Wednesday, May 15
The Rangers and Guardians faced off in the rubber match on Adolis Garcia Call of Duty Endowment Bobblehead night. The Rangers shut out the Guardians 4-0 and avoided a sweep. Texas improved to 23-22, while Cleveland fell to 27-17.

Rangers pitcher Jon Gray pitched 6 1/3 innings and gave up four hits, two walks, and three strikeouts. Meanwhile, Guardians pitcher Carlos Carrasco pitched five innings and gave up five hits, two earned runs, one walk, and three strikeouts. After four scoreless innings, Texas got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning. Marcus Semien homered on a fly ball to left field. Leody Taveras scored for a 2-0 lead.

The Rangers added two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Adolis Garcia homered on a fly ball to left field. Nathaniel Lowe scored for a 4-0 lead. The Rangers had this game from start to finish and earned an 8-0 shutout over the Guardians after nine innings. For Texas, Kirby Yates pitched one inning and garnered three strikeouts. And, for Cleveland, Estevan Florial went 0-for-3.
