Wrap Up

The rough stretch continues for the Red Sox and this time it’s against a long-time rival in the Yankees who just so happen to have the best record in the American League. This is the first matchup of the 2024 season and will see the return of the former Red Sox player Alex Verdugo. Verdugo made some comments about his first time coming to Fenway Park since being traded, but he also mentioned the Red Sox not having the pieces to compete during his time. This seems to be a theme with Nestor Cortes making comments just last season in which the rivalry wasn’t the rivalry anymore and in six games after those comments the Red Sox went 5-1 and finished the 2023 season 9-4 against the Yankees, could Verdugo’s comments wake up the Red Sox in this series as they look to make a statement against their rival and a team leading the American League.
