Pittsburgh Pirates Roster Moves 03/21/2026

Pittsburgh Pirates Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Pittsburgh Pirates have made a decision regarding their top prospect today. The Pirates lost their game today, 8-3, to the Toronto Blue Jays. Heading into the game with Paul Skenes on the mound and top prospect Konnor Griffin starting at Shortstop many thought perhaps Griffin was closing in on the news of making the team out of camp. Instead, the Pittsburgh Pirates have optioned the 19 year old to Minor League camp and will start his season with the Indianapolis Indians, but for how long?

Konnor Griffin

The 19-year-old shortstop impressed this spring. He was the topic of conversation among Pirates fans heading into the new season. Will he make the Opening Day roster or will they start him off in the Minors. The Pittsburgh Pirates are trying to extend the top prospect. Rumors suggest a nine-year deal worth over one hundred million is being discussed.

This spring, Konnor had a .171 average with a .488 slugging percentage and a .749 OPS. He had four home runs, nine RBI, and one steal this spring. He had 10 balls batted over 100 MPH in 41 at-bats. This will be his first game action in Triple-A when the season starts.

Summary

Konnor Griffin needs to continue his success when the regular season starts in Indianapolis. If he does, he will force the hand of the Pittsburgh Pirates. He will be up this year, and if I had to guess, it will be sooner rather than later.
