The Chicago Cubs lost their series 1-2 to the Cleveland Guardians this past weekend. Today, they start fresh with a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. While it may be a new series, the Cubs face a similar situation. Today, they placed Matthew Boyd on the 15-Day injured list. He has a left bicep strain. There were other moves before game one of their series with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Matthew Boyd

The Cubs have placed Matthew Boyd on the 15-day injured list with a left bicep strain. Boyd was the Cubs’ opening day starter after a fantastic 2025 campaign. Boyd is 1-1 this season in two starts with a 6.75 ERA and 17 strikeouts through nine and one-third innings of work.

Javier Assad

The Chicago Cubs have recalled Javier Assad from Triple-A Iowa ahead of tonight’s game with Tampa. Assad with start tomorrow nights game in Boyd spot in the rotation against Drew Rasmussen. Javier has made two starts for the Iowa Cubs this season with a 9.00 ERA, 2.86 WHIP, and seven strikeouts through seven innings of work. He was 4-1 with a 3.65 ERA in eight games with the Cubs last season, seven of those eight games were as a starter.

Ethan Roberts

The Cubs have returned Ethan Roberts, a right-handed pitcher, to Triple-A today after yesterday’s doubleheader with Cleveland. Roberts recorded two outs in yesterday afternoon’s game and gave up one hit during his work.
