Baseball’s Top Prospect Gets The Call

The Pittsburgh Pirates are off today as they get set for their home opener tomorrow. They will face the Baltimore Orioles this weekend. They will play that game with a new face in the lineup: Konnor Griffin, their top prospect and the best prospect in baseball, joins the team. Griffin, this season at Triple-A Indianapolis, in five games, is hitting .438 with a 1.196 OPS. He has three doubles, an RBI, four runs scored, and three stolen bases on five attempts. In 16 games this spring, he hit .171 with a .749 OPS. He had a double, four home runs, nine RBI, five runs scored, and a stolen base on his only attempt. His being sent down was a little surprising, but he is coming, and the time is now.

The Pirates are a team to watch this season, as there’s some excitement with Paul Skenes and the young stable of arms they have that could return to the playoffs. The issue was the lineup, and with the addition of Marcell Ozuna, Brandon Lowe, and Ryan O’Hearn, along with Griffin in the minors, now joining the big league club, that may not be a problem anymore, and the playoffs may be an attainable goal in 2026.
