NCAA Pitchers to Watch Super Regionals

The Super Regionals are set with four games on Friday to kick things off. The other four games will play game one on Saturday. On Friday, West Virginia will face Cal Poly, Troy will face Little Rock, North Carolina will face USC, and Ole Miss will face Auburn. On Saturday, there will be eight games, with Kansas facing Oklahoma, Alabama facing St. John’s, Texas facing Oregon, and Georgia facing Mississippi State, all of which will start their series. The Super Regionals are a best-of-three. Here are 20 pitchers to keep your eye on over the weekend.

RHP – Cade Townsend – Ole Miss

Towsend is the 27th-ranked pitcher ahead of this summer’s draft. Kiley McDaniel has him mocked to be drafted by the Chicago Cubs with the 23rd overall pick. This season in 13 starts, he’s 5-3 with a 3.81 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, and 81 strikeouts in 59 innings. He got the ball on Sunday in the regionals against Arizona State, going five innings, allowing four runs, three earned on six hits. He walked a season-high five and struck out seven.

LHP – Mason Edwards – USC

Edwards is the 34th-ranked prospect in the draft, and he’s projected to be drafted by the New York Mets 27th overall. He has made 16 starts this season, going 8-0 with a 1.85 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP, and 164 strikeouts in 92.2 innings. He leads the country in strikeouts and is second in ERA. Edwards got the ball on Saturday against Lamar in the regionals, going 4.1 innings, allowing five runs on five hits. He walked four and struck out four.

RHP – Joey Volchko – Georgia

Volchko is the 73rd-ranked prospect ahead of the draft. In 16 starts this season, he’s 10-2 with a 3.87 ERA, a 1.40 WHIP, and 98 strikeouts in 81.1 innings. He pitched in the Bulldogs’ first game on Friday against Long Island, going six innings, allowing an unearned run; he didn’t allow a hit, walked four, and struck out ten.

RHP – Taylor Rabe – Ole Miss

Rabe is the 90th-ranked prospect for the MLB Draft. He’s made 15 appearances with nine of those coming as starts, going 5-3 with a 3.84 ERA, a 1.02 WHIP, and 90 strikeouts in 63.1 innings. He faced Nebraska in the regionals, going six innings, allowing a run on four hits. He walked two and struck out nine.

RHP – Jason DeCaro – North Carolina

DeCaro is the 125th-ranked prospect in the draft. In 16 starts, he’s 10-2 with 1.38 WHIP, and 76 strikeouts in 78 innings. He pitched on Saturday in the regionals against East Carolina, going 3.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He walked three and struck out two.

RHP – Dawson Montesa – West Virginia

Montesa is the 167th-ranked prospect for the draft. He’s made 17 appearances with 14 of those coming as starts this season, going 4-5 with a 5.83 ERA, a 1.45 WHIP, and 85 strikeouts in 71 innings. He pitched twice in the regionals. On Sunday, he went 7.1 innings against Wake Forest, allowing five runs, four earned, on four hits. He walked four and struck out seven. On Monday, he went 0.2 innings, walked one, and struck out one.

LHP – Wil Libbert – Ole Miss

Libbert is the 179th-ranked prospect for this summer’s draft. In 15 appearances with eight coming as starts, he’s 2-2 with a 6.75 ERA, a 1.73 WHIP, and 49 strikeouts in 44 innings. He pitched three innings in Sunday’s regional game against Arizona State. He didn’t allow a hit or a run, walking one and striking out two.

LHP – Tomas Valincius – Mississippi State

Valincius has started 16 times this season, going 11-2 with a 2.99 ERA, a 1.02 WHIP, and 130 strikeouts in 93.1 innings. He’s seventh in the country in strikeouts. He got the ball on Saturday in the regionals against Cincinnati, going 7.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out ten.

RHP – Will Sanford – Oregon

Sanford, in 16 starts for the Ducks this season, is 9-2 with a 3.46 ERA, a 1.14 WHIP, and 119 strikeouts in 80.2 innings. He’s 12th in the country in strikeouts. He pitched against Washington State on Saturday in the regionals. He went 6.1 shutout innings, allowing a hit, he walked two, and struck out a season-high 14.

RHP – Dominic Voegele – Kansas

Voegele has made 16 starts this season, going 6-3 with a 5.85 ERA, a 1.38 WHIP, and 117 strikeouts in 92.1 innings. He’s tied for 13th in the country in strikeouts. Voegele pitched in the opener of the regionals, going seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out nine.

LHP – Dylan Volantis – Texas

Volantis has appeared in 15 games this season, with 14 of those coming as starts. He is 9-1 with a 1.94 ERA, a 0.93 WHIP, and 116 strikeouts in 83.1 innings. Volantis is tied for 14th in the country in strikeouts and is third in ERA. He pitched Saturday against Tarleton St. He went 6.2 innings, allowing a run on three hits; he walked one and struck out seven.

RHP – Caden Glauber – North Carolina

In 24 appearances with two of those coming as starts, he went 10-0 with a 2.06 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, and 88 strikeouts in 74.1 innings. He is fifth in the country in ERA. The six-foot-four-inch, 210-pound freshman has electric stuff, and if you wanted him to pitch in the regionals, you saw he’s an arm to watch closely. He pitched in Saturday’s game, going 4.1 innings, allowing two runs on three hits; he walked one and struck out a season-high eight batters.

LHP – Maxx Yehl – West Virginia

Yehl in 15 starts went 8-2 with a 2.14 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP, and 95 strikeouts in 80 innings. He is sixth in the country in ERA. He pitched 0.2 innings on Saturday and five innings on Monday. Yehl combined to go 5.2 innings, allowing five runs, one earned, on five hits. Yehl walked one and struck out six over the regionals.

RHP – Grant Govel – USC

Govel made 17 appearances, with 16 of those coming as starts. He is 10-2 with a 2.96 ERA, a 0.86 WHIP, and 92 strikeouts in 94.1 innings. He’s tenth in the country in innings pitched. He pitched in Friday’s first game of the regional and then again in Monday’s winner-take-all game. Govel combined to go 9.2 innings in the regionals, allowing four runs on seven hits. He walked four and struck out ten.

RHP – Alex Petrovic – Auburn

Petrovic, in 16 starts, is 10-2 with a 3.19 ERA, a 1.01 WHIP, and 87 strikeouts in 87.1 innings. He pitched on Sunday in the regionals, going six innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits. He walked three and struck out six.

RHP – Andreas Alvarez – Auburn

Alvarez, in 15 starts, is 10-3 with a 3.52 ERA, a 1.27 WHIP, and 103 strikeouts in 79.1 innings. He pitched on Saturday against NC State in the regionals. Alvarez went 5.2 innings, allowing nine runs, four earned, on eight hits. He walked two and struck out one.

RHP – Liam O’Leary – St. John’s

O’Leary has made 16 starts this season, going 8-4 with a 3.25 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP, and 74 strikeouts in 105.1 innings. He was second in the country in innings pitched. O’Leary pitched on Friday, going 5.1 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits. He walked four and struck out six.

RHP – Brannon Westmoreland – Little Rock

Westmoreland, in 17 games with 16 of those coming as starts, is 6-2 with a 3.12 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP, and 81 strikeouts in 98 innings. He’s 11th in the country in innings pitched. On Friday in his start during the regionals, he went five innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out five.

RHP – Tyler Fay – Alabama

Fay in 16 starts this season is 10-4 with a 4.70 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP, and 112 strikeouts in 95.2 innings. He’s 16th in the country in innings pitched. Fay pitched on Friday against Alabama State, going 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He walked one and struck out eight.

RHP – Carson Turnquist – Cal Poly

Turnquist has made 15 appearances with 13 of those coming as starts, going 9-2 with a 3.35 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP, and 90 strikeouts in 75.1 innings. He pitched Saturday, going six innings, allowing a run on five hits. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out seven.
