Jacob deGrom Scratched from Saturday Start

The Texas Rangers are getting set to play the middle game of their three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Rangers lost their season opener 5-3 on Thursday afternoon. Today ahead of their game they announced that right-handed pitcher Jacob deGrom would not make his scheduled start against the Phillies. deGrom is out with neck stiffness. Left-handed pitcher Jacob Latz will get the ball for the Rangers today in place of deGrom. This spring deGrom made one start, and he picked up the win going three shutout innings allowing two hits. He walked one and struck out five. Latz this spring made six appearances with five coming as starts going 1-1 with an 8.04 ERA, a 1.79 WHIP, and 16 strikeouts in 15.2 innings.

Jacob deGrom

deGrom made 30 starts last season going 12-8 with a 2.97 ERA, a 0.92 WHIP, and 185 strikeouts in 172.2 innings. He has made 248 career starts going 96-65 with a 2.57 ERA, a 0.99 WHIP, and 1,851 strikeouts in 1,539.2 innings. deGrom won the Cy Young with the Mets in 2018 and 2019. He also won the Rookie of the Year award in 2014. 

Jacob Latz

Latz last season in 33 appearances with eight of those coming as starts he went 2-0. He had a 2.84 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP, and 76 strikeouts in 85.2 innings. He has made 83 career appearances with nine coming as starts 4-4 with a 3.08 ERA, a 1.29 WHIP, and 125 strikeouts in 140.1 innings.
